We need your help in order to convince your colleagues at the EP [to get them banned].<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Pressure by Commission\/Council and Updates on Trilogue<\/h2>\n<p>On November 24th, the Firearms United network received classified and very reliable intelligence according to which the European Commission would be exerting an unprecedented amount of pressure on the European Parliament to reach an end to the trilogue before the end of the year; and such an agreement would be on the Council&#8217;s position.<\/p>\n<p>Given how many of the biggest member States agree on many points \u2013 with the governments of Germany, France and Italy being among the main sponsors of what is now in-famously known as the \u00abEU gun ban\u00bb \u2013 the European Parliament may indeed be forced to capitulate.<\/p>\n<p>Vicky Ford will present an update on Trilogues and Events at the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gunsweek.com\/sites\/default\/files\/archive\/current\/articles\/firearms-united-new-initiative\/IMCO.pdf\">IMCO committee next Tuesday, November 29, 2016<\/a>.<\/strong> (you may follow by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/ep-live\/en\/committees\/video?event=20161129-1000-COMMITTEE-IMCO\" target=\"_blank\">webstream<\/a>\u00a0at 11:15 &#8211; 12:30)<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Positions of Council and Commission<\/h2>\n<div class=\"col-sm-6 pull-right\">\n<div style=\"width: 191px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"image-gw-content-image image-popup\" title=\"EU Gun Ban: a new Call to Action from Firearms United!\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gunsweek.com\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/gw_content_image\/public\/archive\/current\/articles\/firearms-united-new-initiative\/Magazine.jpg?itok=WYnWnQXE\" alt=\"Should the Commission had their way, many critical points in our gun rights would be in danger\" width=\"181\" height=\"369\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo by Oleg Volk<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"image-caption\">\n<p><strong>Council&#8217;s Position<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"field field-name-field-gw-text-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\">\n<p>The<strong> Council position excludes a total ban on Category B7 firearms <\/strong>\u2013 those modern hunting, sporting and defensive firearms patterned after military rifles and carbines \u2013 but still threatens us in several critical points:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A total ban on <strong>demilitarized firearms<\/strong>, those meaning full-automatic firearms that were permanently and irreversibly modified to semi-automatic operation for the civilian market<\/li>\n<li>A ban on <strong>magazines for handguns and long guns holding more than 20 rounds of ammunition,<\/strong> and a <strong>prohibition to their use<\/strong>, with a generic \u00ab<strong>exception for sport shooters<\/strong>\u00ab<\/li>\n<li>A mandatory <strong>five-years expiry date for all gun licenses <\/strong>and mandatory <strong>medical and psychological test for all gun owners<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Commission&#8217;s \u00a0Position<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Commission could have its way through the Council to impose even stricter conditions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A total ban on<strong> all Category B7 firearms\u00a0<\/strong>or, to say the least, to all<strong> AR-15 and AK-47 derivatives<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>A total ban on <strong>magazines for handguns and long guns holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition<\/strong>, with <strong>mandatory licensing for purchase and ownership<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Little or no exceptions<\/strong>, even for collectors or sport shooters<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"field-item odd\">\n<div class=\"row entity entity-paragraphs-item paragraphs-item-pt-unit\">\n<div class=\"content\">\n<h2>Why this reaction, and why now?<\/h2>\n<div class=\"field field-name-field-gw-text-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\">\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright \" src=\"http:\/\/www.gunsweek.com\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/gw_content_image\/public\/archive\/current\/articles\/firearms-united-new-initiative\/Conference-1.JPG?itok=Uc_BrK_l\" alt=\"\" width=\"364\" height=\"246\" \/>The outcome of the November 16 conference at the European Parliament in Brussels terrified the Commission<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It is now clear that the gun owners and gun enthusiasts&#8217; community Europe-wide could all come together, and that the Firearms United network could turn into a real European <abbr class=\"taxonomy-tooltip-element\" title=\"National Rifle Association\">NRA<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n<p>The European Commission realized that the Firearms United network could be able to <a href=\"http:\/\/firearms-united.com\/2016\/11\/19\/ia\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>show their lack of arguments <\/strong><\/a>and dismantle the EU gun ban plans piece by piece.<\/p>\n<p>Last, but not least, the <strong>external players <\/strong>who influence or guide the European Commission&#8217;s gun ban attempts are also restless.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"field-item even\">\n<div class=\"row entity entity-paragraphs-item paragraphs-item-pt-unit\">\n<div class=\"content\">\n<div class=\"field field-name-field-gw-text-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\">\n<p>Those include the <strong>governments of at least three founding EU Countries <\/strong>(France, Germany, Italy), plus many others \u2013 the United Kingdom probably being among them despite Brexit.<\/p>\n<p>Among those players also are several <strong>prominent anti-gun NGOs <\/strong>that have so far been very supportive of the EU gun ban, from the Flemish Peace Institute to the Small Arms Survey. Those NGOs are far from being grassroot organizations, and are often funded by millions of Euros (or dollars) from other non-governmental lobbyists and anti-gun millionaires.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2>What can we do?<\/h2>\n<div class=\"col-sm-6 pull-right\">\n<div class=\"image-caption\">\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/firearms-united.com\/2016\/11\/25\/write-call-meps-now\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-1870 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/firearms-united.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/calltoaction.png\" alt=\"calltoaction\" width=\"279\" height=\"183\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.firearms-united.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/calltoaction.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.firearms-united.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/calltoaction-300x197.png 300w, https:\/\/www.firearms-united.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/calltoaction-768x504.png 768w, https:\/\/www.firearms-united.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/calltoaction-600x394.png 600w, https:\/\/www.firearms-united.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/calltoaction-624x410.png 624w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 279px) 100vw, 279px\" \/><\/a>Gun owners Europe-wide must once again contact the Members of the European Parliament to make their point.<\/p>\n<p>The Firearms United network is thus urging all gun owners, gun enthusiasts, and freedom lovers in Europe \u2013 as well as industry and business stakeholders in the field, from manufacturers to distributors and retailers \u2013 to <strong>support the MEPs who oppose the EU gun ban<\/strong> with a new <a href=\"http:\/\/firearms-united.com\/2016\/11\/25\/write-call-meps-now\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>massive E-Mailing campaign<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"field field-name-field-gw-text-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\">\n<p>Although most Members of the European Parliament have all issues perfectly clear in their minds after the November 16 conference, those E-Mails will provide them with some solid support from the European people to base their resilient opposition. That&#8217;s why all E-Mails must be measured and accommodating in their tones, but nonetheless as clear as it gets in explaining what we want.<\/p>\n<p>And they must be written with a personal touch: <strong>no massive cut-and paste<\/strong> and <strong>no massive sending of thousands of carbon-copy E-Mails<\/strong>, since they would be blocked by Spam filters or, worse, would make the European gun owners community like a mass of brainless individuals who can&#8217;t write a letter on their own to explain their reasons with their own words.<\/p>\n<p>Firearms United is providing some suggestions for the points to make in your E-Mails \u2013 which should be written and sent to the Members of the European Parliament <strong>no later than next Monday, or Tuesday morning at the most<em>.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Read the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gunsweek.com\/en\/current\/articles\/eu-gun-ban-new-call-action-firearms-united\" target=\"_blank\">manual for emails at GUNSweek:<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gunsweek.com\/en\/current\/articles\/eu-gun-ban-new-call-action-firearms-united\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1904\" src=\"http:\/\/firearms-united.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/gunsweek.png\" alt=\"gunsweek\" width=\"382\" height=\"248\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.firearms-united.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/gunsweek.png 382w, https:\/\/www.firearms-united.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/gunsweek-300x195.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 382px) 100vw, 382px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>&#8230;and where&#8217;s the industry?<\/h2>\n<div class=\"field field-name-field-gw-text-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\">\n<p>Once again \u2013 and just like they did for the November 16th conference \u2013 industry and economic stakeholders are keeping dead silent in the hour of need.<\/p>\n<p>As used as we may be to see them play deaf (and blind), it has to be said that the feedback gathered by the Firearms United network among its followers towards this behaviour is not good at all: a vast majority of European gun owners seems to be inclined to consider the European gun industry a covert supporter of the EU gun ban plans. And this can&#8217;t be good for business.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Manufacturers, importers and exporters, distributors and retailers would be better off holding their national governments accountable for their position at the Council.<\/strong> They would have full reason to, given how reportedly, among the typical confusion of the European institutions, some of the representatives of the Member States who are lobbying for further restrictions on legally-owned firearms seem to be vastly exceeding the mandate they received from their governments and Parliaments.<\/p>\n<p>Counting on the fact that nobody will ever hold them accountable, some anti-gun government bureaucrats are supporting the Commission&#8217;s EU gun ban plans regardless of what they have been told to do by the governments they&#8217;re supposed to represent.<\/p>\n<p>In other cases, they are indeed following closely a secret mandate from their governments.\u00a0The Firearms United network has solid intel to accuse some governments of double-crossing the stakeholders: while they officially do not support the restrictions as they would harm the national industry or defense, in Brussels they secretly support the EU Gun Ban plans hoping that they&#8217;ll be allowed to impose more restrictions to law-abiding gun owners with the old \u00ab<em>It&#8217;s the EU, not us<\/em>\u00bb excuse, because they could not otherwise take direct political responsibility for impopular and counterproductive bans that the national democracy would certainly stop.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How can the European gun industry just keep silent in front of all this? We don&#8217;t know!<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>How will it end?<\/h2>\n<div class=\"col-sm-6 pull-right\">\n<div class=\"image-caption\">\n<p>This is the final rush: the outcome of the fight depends from you and what you&#8217;re willing to do!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"field field-name-field-gw-text-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\">\n<p>Given the number of variables, it&#8217;s very hard to say now.
