FIREARMS UNITED agrees with this aim \u2013 the safeguard of legitimate use, that is. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>King believes that the European Commission, Council and Parliament can come out with effective control measures against criminal misuse of firearms. We don&#8217;t think that any possible compromise between their current positions could have any effect on illegally held firearms. It would, instead, have a huge negative impact on legally held firearms, their owners and the civilian firearms industry that supports more than 580,000 jobs in small and medium enterprises. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>MEP Jussi Halla-Aho, co-chair of our <a href=\"http:\/\/firearms-united.com\/firearms-directive-conference\/\" target=\"_blank\">Firearms Directive Conference<\/a>, asked the right questions in LIBE committee to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/news\/en\/news-room\/20160909IPR41739\/parliament-endorses-sir-julian-king-as-commissioner-for-security-union\" target=\"_blank\">Sir Julian King, the new Commissioner for Security Union<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"x-resp-embed x-is-video x-is-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"846\" height=\"476\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/clsxLOMWIdc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Transcript<\/p>\n<p><strong>MEP Jussi Halla-Aho :\u00a0<\/strong>Mr. Commissioner, you know in previous dialogue I asked for your views on the Commission proposal for a new firearms directive.\u00a0Now that the triallogues are underway I would like to repeat the question and I would appreciate an answer more concrete than that you aim for a fair and balanced outcome.<\/p>\n<p><strong>So will the Commission continue to insist stubbornly on a total ban and confiscation of semi-automatic sporting rifles?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Despite the fact that this line has been heavily criticized in both the European Parliament and the Council. And <strong>despite the fact that no criminological study suggests this particular type of legally acquired and possessed firearms we&#8217;re a threat to public security.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Does the Commission consider starting to <strong>respect the EU&#8217;s own principles of good legislation<\/strong>?<\/p>\n<p>From your initial brief remarks I got the impression that you are rather enthusiastic about the Commission proposal.\u00a0But i hope this is a false impression.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you<\/p>\n<p><strong>Julian King, Commissioner for Security Union:\u00a0<\/strong>On the particular question of firearms &#8211; raised by one of the Honorable members &#8211; I&#8217;m terribly sorry &#8211; \u00a0<strong>I am enthusiastic about the Commission position.\u00a0<\/strong>I think you would be very surprised if I took any position other than to support the Commission position.<\/p>\n<p>But as I set out I do really want us now to find a way of agreeing together what we&#8217;re going to do in this area.<\/p>\n<p>Because I think more than a year on from the events at Bataclan it is getting quite hard to explain publicly why it is we stucked.<\/p>\n<p>Now in order to reach an agreement, it has to be an agreement that <strong>all parties can rally to: the Commission and the States and the Parliament<\/strong>.\u00a0So I don&#8217;t at all want to take away from the very detailed debate that is taking place on <strong>how exactly to formulate effective controls.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But I do hope that we will be able to find an agreement soon. <strong>And that agreement will restrict the circulation of fully automatic and converted semi-automatic weapons in a way that respects their legitimate use<\/strong> in different communities, in different parts of our society.<\/p>\n<p>That I think is the aspiration and I hope we were able to realize it.","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Przepraszamy, ten wpis jest dost\u0119pny tylko w j\u0119zyku Ameryka\u0144ski Angielski.
